Another great night for DU ADVANCED Toastmasters Club! With 31 members and guests, the meeting rolled off with passion, humour, and inspiration, even though it started off a bit late due to heavy downpour outside room 1.08 KDU College.
We had some beloved long lost members who came back to rally their support though, and that made the meeting more worthwhile.
The 101 Session was helmed by invited speaker, Ms Goh Ai Yat, who is a specialist consultant in banking and finance. Today, she spoke and delivered a presentation on her pet subject though - "Networking - What Is?"
She introduced us to tactics & techniques, and gave us all an insight on how to do it better by building up social capital, sharing your competence. Very simply, she contends that networking is someone who knows someone who knows someone...
Thank you Ms Ai Yat for your valuable sharing.
For prepared speeches, we had Chan Siew Peng, who is 2nd runners up in the Division B International Speech Contest working out of the Interpretive Reading manual. Her story was entitled "Krent's Darkness at Noon" which related the struggles of Harod Krent being born blind. However, it did not deter him from the pursuit of study and his goals in life. It was a very touching story indeed.
Our ever so eloquent Bonnie Loo was up next, delivering her presentation on "Impromptu Speaking". There was no more suitable speaker than Bonnie on this topic as she recently emerged second runners up in the Divison B Table Topics Contest.
Finally, Deborah Hoe repeated her Ice Breaking speech with slides of her family, including her proud parents, grandma and her sweet memories of growing up. That too touched the hearts of the audience. Pictures of family = image of God!
With our stern-faced GE, Peter Siew and a witty TME, Dennis Wee we enjoyed ourselves the whole night. Meeting ended with cake cutting and singing of birthday song for birthday girl Samatha Teoi. This month also saw birthday celebrations of Ho Fong Ming, and Nancy Liew. Happy Birthday to all of You!
Rounding up President Lee Wei Seong thanked all for being present and we definitely had a lot to take home.
Last but not least, we signed up a few new members. Isn't that an achievement?!! Till we meet again on 8 May 2008!
Adios to all!!
Regards,
VPPR
