What a stupendous meeting!

8th April 2010, the usual regular meeting was held at the usual venue with unusual heaps of vibes by our ever vivacious Toastmaster of the Evening, Tham Chee Wah, DTM. His avid opening was “10 years ago, I decided to join toastmasters. And now I still like it! ….” His zealous sharing about his toastmaster’s experience captured the audience’s interest in public speaking.

Language Evaluator (LE) Arthur Yong, CC continuously added zest to the night with an introduction of the word of the day ~~ “stupendous”. He encouraged speakers to use the word of the day in their speeches.

Table Topic Master (TTM) Victor Ong, ACS provided more chances for the use of the word by giving topics like “my stupendous appetite”, “my stupendous love”, “my stupendous teacher”, “my stupendous adventure” & “my most embarrassed moment”. To our amazement, all topics were taken up by our 1st time guests; they are Japheth Lau, Audrey Ang, William Koh, Iglia and Dinesh. Most of them enjoyed speaking before an audience. Without the maiden speakers’ realization on their speaking performance; Table Topics Evaluator (TTE) Bernard Louis, DTM congratulated them for having possessed the some good quality speaking skills; such as good flow of thoughts, right use of humor, body gestures and their captivating smiles. What was most admirable was their eagerness to conquer stage fright.

The Club celebrated the birthdays for our April born members - Victor Ong and Nancy Liew, with a lovely Birthday cake and a Birthday song. ( The other April lady was Samantha Teoi who missed the meeting. ) After the intermission, ( we had delicious ‘nasi lemak’ ) there was still room for more food – speeches. 3 club members presented their assignment speeches which energized the meeting to another level.

Toastmaster SK Khor, a Project Management Consultant shared his specialty, ie “Introduction to Project Management”. His diverse knowledge on the subject benefited all the members who were either management or non-management personnel at the meeting.

Foong Weng Tuck, ACB attempted one of the speeches from the Interpersonal Communication manual, and it was titled “Swimming Pool or Swimming Pond”. He demonstrated the diffusing verbal criticism skill with Victor Ong as his tenant in a Condominium. The hostile tenant has taken huge amount of time in his complains against Weng Tuck, the Property Manager. The audience almost fell off the chairs by the amusing antics of Victor as the hostile tenant.

She felt blessed in her achievement and services rendered to the district. It was a heart warming, emotional and endearing 5:23 minutes speech. Her speech evoked the appreciation and admiration of the audience.
