- 13th May 2010, Regular Meeting
"I have no problem to talk about cost two to three years later in building a property. But I tend to struggle when come to 'words' in a speech ..." An established Quantity Surveyor as well as Past President 2004/2005 of our club, ATMB Ken Wang couldn't forget what brought him back to the Club from heart. He has volunteered to be the Toastmaster of the Evening (TME) a month ago wished to rekindle his passion in toastmaster journey with intensive zeal. The Club is blessed to have you back to the Club again Ken, great job!!!
That night, the room filled with 41 seats by toastmasters and non-toastmasters from all walk of life. Ken led the meeting enthusiastically started with 101 Session by invited speaker Ms Denise Tan of Talent Farm, a Specialist on Creative Maths. Denise drove everyone to the world of creativity within the 25-minute effectively and lively! It was an evident showcase of stimulating our intellectual thinking, especially in the last segment on "Amazing Mind Reader". Denise amazed the audience by telling the secretive numbers they have written in advance on the paper. She revealed audience's secretive numbers at her fingertip. The magic of Creative Maths skill just can't be wrong! Kudos Denise, thank you for your sharing!!!
Assignment Speech Session was the main focus of the night. Toastmaster SK Khor exhibited the requisite skill of 'Persuade with Power' (Project # 9 of the Competent Communicator Manual). He kept enforcing the alertness of internet users from being threatened or bullied in the unsecure cyberworld. He left us with distinct ending - "Protect yourself, Protect your family, Protect your loved one!” , echoing us to reconsider personal content to be published to the unfiltered network!
ACS Joyce Hue presented the 1st Project of Speaking to Inform Manual. She presented touching statement through vivid words about mother's love. It's great to have you back to our Club too, Joyce, after a long time. Good attempt!!!
Last but not least, ACG Dennis Wee rehearsed his winning speech titled "Leap of Faith" for International Speech Contest (District level) which will be held at the upcoming Annual Convention in Miri in 23rd May 2010. Dennis opened the audience eyes with his conviction and superb speaking performance! Wishing you all the best in Miri Dennis, we are proud of you!
As speeches were nice to listen, words were fantastically used. To what extent of effectiveness did the speakers perform to its objective(s)? To bridge the effectiveness, our maiden General Evaluator (GE) ACG Victor Ong brought both his speakers and team of evaluators' viewpoint to the equilibrium.
The Evaluation Team consists of Division S Governor DTM Sue Chan, DTM Joseph Gomez and DTM Low Yat Seow. GE Victor Ong continued electrifying the audience during Open Evaluation session, and it worked like a charm! Six (6) more voluntary evaluators added different perspectives to the speakers' presentation. Brilliant Victor!
As the curtain about to fall on, President Foong thanked the guests for having taken the time off to grace our club's meeting.
