26 persons have witnessed the recent meeting on the 12/11/2009. We have 2 visiting toastmasters, Joanne from Metro Toastmasters Club and Fun Mun Wah from University Malaya Toastmasters Club.
The President who fondly known as Uncle Foong shared a personal story during his opening speech. He was describing how a slow driver enjoying his drive and rocking in the car without noticing other cars around him. The moral of the story is we can be happy anywhere anytime and we have to look for our own happiness.
The meeting was interesting as we have a guest speaker, Ms Susan Kwok from Fragrant Blessings whom have shared a lot on Lifestyle Aromatherapy: Essential Oils for Public Speaking. The 30 minutes talk was so interesting and we learnt about what is aromatherapy, what are essential oils and the source of essential oils. Susan has shared with us that before we could determine which essential oil to be used for public speaking, we have to set our intention as a speaker, i.e. alertness and focus as the first intention and energetic as the second intention. With the priority of intentions, then only we could move forward to determine which oil to use. The questions and answers session was so interesting and we learnt that the rule of thumb in using essential oil, i.e. less is more.
We had a great 20 minutes break and everyone was still busy talking about the essential oils while eating. After the break, we have witnessed how entertaining was Victor Ong with his speech The Killing Song. He was attempting the first assignment from The Entertaining Speaker Manual. We were carried away by the play about the Cinderella delivered by Nancy Liew. She was attempting assignment #4 from The Interpretive Reading Manual.
The Past President of Deloitte Kassim Chan Toastmasters Club, Tan Kian Yoong flew back from US and had attended our club meeting. Towards the end of the meeting, he was presented with the Toastmasters of The Year Award 2007/2008 for Division B by Dennis Wee.
The meeting ended with a meaningful quote from the President, Uncle Foong. He quoted this:
Be a fountain, not be a drain.
Use time as a tool, not as a couch.
